The clothing-optional section of Gunnison Beach is located on the south side of the Sandy Hook peninsula. On sunny days, this stretch of beach attracts many visitors who enjoy sunbathing with views of the Manhattan skyline in the background. During the summer, round-trip ferry service to Gunnison Beach is available from Manhattan, departing from Pier 11/Wall Street or East 35th St./FDF to Sandy Hook. However, weekends can be quite crowded.
Driving to Gunnison Beach is recommended if you have a car, as the ferry can be expensive and parking often fills up quickly on weekends. Upon arrival, walk along the boardwalk until you see the “Entering Clothing Optional Area” signs to find the designated section.
Near the beach parking lot, there are changing areas and restrooms. Food trucks, such as the Naked Tamale, provide refreshments for beachgoers. Within the nude area, it is customary for gay visitors to gather to the right and straight visitors to the left.
