Vama Veche Beach, located south of Costinesti, has a rich history that dates back to the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s when it became a popular refuge for bohemians, hippies, intellectuals, punks, rockers, and others seeking an escape from the repressive communist regime in Romania.
Today, Vama Veche remains one of the most beloved party towns in Romania. From May through September, the beach and its surrounding town attract a vibrant mix of people of all ages who come to relax, enjoy the lively atmosphere, and embrace freedom — including the freedom to go nude. While nudism is popular at either end of the beach, it’s often mixed with textile sunbathers along the stretch, making it a diverse and welcoming place for all types of beachgoers.
