Bonny Doon Beach, located just north of Santa Cruz, is a tranquil and scenic spot, well-known for its annual nude event held on New Year’s Day. Weather permitting, this beach is regarded as one of the most beautiful and accommodating locations for nudists in California.
Since its sale in 2001, Bonny Doon Beach has become part of the California State Parks system. As of 2013, state officials permit nudity on the north end of the beach unless there are complaints. However, swimmers should exercise caution due to the dangerous conditions, including crashing waves and strong currents.
