Abricó Beach is the only officially designated nudist beach in Rio de Janeiro, situated in the Grumari area of Barra da Tijuca, within the Grumari Municipal Park biological reserve. Stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers, Abricó Beach is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, scenic backdrop of mountains, and lush tropical vegetation.
While not exclusively gay, Abricó Beach is notably gay-friendly and nudity is mandatory on weekends. The beach offers a broad sandy expanse with some wooded areas, rocks, and cruising spots, especially at the far end where the rocks provide private nooks. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a focus on nude sunbathing, swimming, and socializing. Thursdays and Fridays are particularly popular, as the beach tends to be less crowded and more vibrant.
**Getting There:** A car is necessary to access Abricó Beach from Rio, located roughly 50 minutes from Ipanema, past the south end of Barra da Tijuca. To reach the beach, drive through Grumari Park, past Prainha Beach, and follow signs to the Abricó beach access. Parking attendants are available to watch your car for a small fee.
**Notes:** After 11:30 a.m., the beach starts to fill up with visitors, and many begin exploring the rocky areas. If you plan to take a taxi, arrange for a return pickup in advance or be prepared for a long walk back to find transportation.
