The beach on the northeast side of Aberlady Bay, known for its broad expanse of sand and backing dunes, is a serene and unofficial naturist destination in East Lothian. Popular mostly among gay men, nude bathers often gather toward the northeast end, maintaining a respectful distance from the main access trail.
Naturism here is primarily concentrated in the dunes, where privacy is more assured. On the open beach, nudity tends to occur later in the day, possibly due to a decreased likelihood of beach patrols. While the reserve warden is generally tolerant of nudity in the dunes, visitors should exercise discretion when venturing onto the open beach to preserve the area’s relaxed atmosphere.
