Moturoa / Rabbit Island, located about a half-hour’s drive from Nelson, is connected to the mainland by a short causeway. The island features a long, sandy beach stretching approximately 8 kilometers across its northern coast, facing Tasman Bay. The eastern end of the island hosts the most established nudist beach, which is also the preferred spot for many gay men. To reach the nudist section, walk east (to the right when facing the water) for nearly a kilometer before disrobing. The beach has been mentioned in the media on occasion due to reports of sexual activity taking place on the beach.
